We've been on a rollercoaster the last few days. Scheduled to fly to
London this evening (Saturday) and then to France (Bayeux and Normandy
beaches). Rob cancelled out yesterday because his mother's health has
plummeted since two falls on Memorial Day. Hospice care was ordered for
her on Thursday evening and at 10:15 p.m. Friday, she died. COPD, CHF,
renal failure, and a lack of will to live took the ultimate toll. She
would have been 88 on June 15. Chris arrived in MSP on Friday
afternoon in time to say hello and good-bye to his favorite grandma.
Beck came in Thursday night late and left Friday afternoon. Rob had
good time with her for the last few months and said his good-byes on
Friday morning. Then came the wait for the inevitable.
I was expecting that if she died before I was scheduled to leave with
the tour group that I, too, would cancel my plans. Rob and Chris
encouraged me to go on the trip as planned. I'm looking forward to it
and will continue as planned because Chris is here to be with his dad.
It's a good thing.
Am hoping to hook up with Anne Charlet in Paris on the weekend of June
12.
OB food: We ate supper at Yvonne's assisted living place: sauerkraut,
Polish sausage <so they said>, and fried potatoes. Tasty.
Blahblahblahblahblah.

Damned. Sorry about your MIL. I hope all goes well for her. Have fun on
your trip even though it will probably be hard to with the issues at home.
You *do* have my address and I expect lots of expensive food items to be
shipped from France.
OB food recovery: I have the worst acid indigestion from all the fast food
last night. Even breakfast does not sound good. Lunch is going to be
Mexican with a friend from Lexington KY. I don't know if the body can
handle spicy food today. Well, yeah it can ;)

Barb, I am very sorry for the loss of your mother-in-law; my prayers and
sympathy are with you and your family. We recently went through the
death of my husband's mother (she would have been 94 yesterday) and I
know that even when it's expected, even when it's a blessing, it hurts
like nothing else. God be with you, and your good memories.

Thank you, Leo. I think Rob doesn't realize yet that he's still on his
rollercoaster ride. His tears this morning surprised him some. He's at
peace with her passing, but the hole in the heart still exists - and
will the rest of HIS days. I am SO grateful for my son's presence. I
wish I could be a fly on the wall to watch my guys interactions without
my presence. Sam and Beck and Jamie will be down in a couple days and I
KNOW that will brighten Grrr's spirits.

Nah, you're not stupid. Her passing was relatively swift and pain-free
and thems what needed to say good-bye said good-bye. Except for her
other grandson. Which should only consolidate Chris' position as
Favored Grandson. "-) (You'd have to have seen the two of them
together with her to appreciate the joke.)

Barb,
Sorry to hear of your MIL's passing. It's difficult to see formerly
strong people dwindle away. Hope Rob and the kids can celebrate her
long life more than mourn her death.
Have a wonderful time in France! We await your tales of cuisine, haute
and otherwise.
OB food: I discovered last night that The One True Peach Cobbler also
works with cherries. When the Himalayan blackberries return, I'll have
to try them in the recipe as well.

What a great trip. I hope you see something of London, and enjoy it, before
you leave for France.
If you don't, I'll smack you upside the head. Enjoy France and all it has
to offer; please tell aec I miss her posts.

I think you're so right about this - do we ever really get over losing
our parents? I lost my dad over 35 years ago and I still think of him
almost every single day.
