Only sorta OT: my dream kitchen - CLICK HERE for the Cooking Forum Index
Siobhan Perricone
I haven't been posting as much but I do still read every day. I just
thought I'd send an update to those of you who might be interested...

We sold the country manor house (those of you at the Vermont Cook-In will
remember it) last fall in preparation for building our dream home (without
a pool, and a little more than a third of the size of the manor house). We
looked for land all through the fall, until the snow made that too
difficult. Then I started again this spring. It was really hard because the
best bits of land in the places we wanted to live were just way expensive.

So at the beginning of May we found the right parcel, made and offer, and
it was accepted. We closed on June 1st. Our builder is starting
construction on or around the 15th. If there are setbacks and weather
delays, we should be in around mid to late October.

So I'm finally getting to build my dream kitchen and walk-in pantry.

The kitchen is around 24X12 and the pantry is 6X13. I'll have an electric
double wall oven, and a gas stovetop insert in the peninsula (no appliance
decisions have been made yet). The whole thing will be open to the living
area (so it's going to be a great room), and it'll have cathedral ceilings.

The work triangle is a bit large, but it's not really all that bad because
it'll be handicap accessible with plenty of room for turn radius (we plan
on growing old in this house), and several cooks to do things, which is
nice.

The parcel is completely wooded with a mix of coniferous and deciduous
trees, and it's got a very gentle slope. We're not sure if we'll get our
walk out basement but I'm hoping so.

Probably I'll have another Cook-In after it's been built and we're settled,
if anyone's interested. :)

I saw a bathroom which was completely made of metal. If one had a kitchen on
that model, and automatic spray from the ceiling, half the cleaning would be
done for one.

Oh, and I *need* a chef and his or her retinue. ;-)
