Michael Odom
Dad, Mom, Karon and James, Sharon, Teri, and an unexpected guest from
my long-ago past who drove up in his new retirement home in time for
dinner -- all have left for Dallas, Richardson, Mansfield, Baton Rouge
and the far-flung highways. D and I are again alone. The brisket is
gone, all 12 pounds of it. Most of it got eaten. Some of it went
home with the clan.

Over the weekend we ate (besides the brisket, of which I am proud)
most of a spiral-cut ham that Mom got on sale, a platter of grilled
vegetables (red and yellow bell pepper, eggplant, asparagus, and
onions), half a pound of Maytag blue cheese D and I picked up in
Newton Iowa last weekend, some white cheddar we got there, too, a
salad of tomatoes and cucumbers in herbs and vinegar, some exquisite
tiny crab cakes Mom and Dad brought from Baton Rouge, a relish/salad I
made from diced mangos and avocados and lemon juice and olive oil and
cilantro, several loaves of good bread, and some other stuff I can't
remember right now.

Sandy Eggo wasn't the only place folks had a cook-in this weekend.
