Broth came with the turkey - CLICK HERE for the Cooking Forum Index

I bought one of those turkey breasts on sale to cook in the Weber Smokey
Mountain. When I unwrapped it to go into the brining bucket, there was a
plastic pouch. "Giblets? In a breast?" I thunked. No, it turned out to
be a pouch full of broth. Never had that before.

Never heard of it either. How salty was it?

I haven't tried it yet, it's in the refrigerator. I'll probably make some
mashed potatoes and gravy and see how it goes.

What did the wrapper say it was supposed to be?
The ones I have gotten, say they come with gravy, which is supposed to be
heated in a pan.
I found it to smell pretty rancid right out of the pouch (don't know why,
since it had been thawed from frozen in the refrigerator). But upon adding
a bit of red wine and simmering for half an hour, it developed a pretty
decent aroma and flavor.

I found it to be very salty and nasty. but then again, I never tried wine.

The wrapper didn't really say much of anything, it merely printed a
recipe for turkey gravy.

No, this was broth. I'm talking about a whole, uncooked turkey breast,
not one of those roasts. I've never heard of prefab gravy coming with
one of those. Then again, I've never had broth either.


The broth was pretty good. Under refrigeration it was somewhat
gelatinous and had a reasonably deep golden color. As it wasn't packaged
for individual sale, there was no ingredients list and no size. I
weighed the package and it was about 10 ozs.

I prepared gravy with a butter/flour roux, the broth, fresh sage, thyme,
and black pepper. Went well with mashed potatoes and some of the turkey.
