We've survived more storms... the hurricane yesterday and a tornado this
morning. We were very fortunate and did not have any damage this time.

We hope everyone else has been having a safe Labor Day weekend.

Thanks for the word. Nobody builds to withstand a tornado or the impact
of a downed tree, but it's not unreasonable for building codes to
require that roofs remain intact in class-2 hurricanes. If homeowners --
and their insurers -- were responsible for damage to others caused by
blown debris originating from their buildings, the code would change
quickly.

However that may be, I'm glad you came through OK.

Yeah, well... I think it's Mother Nature's way of telling me that either "I
should never have left" or "I never should have returned"! LOL

Of course, just as "...the world may never know how many licks it takes
toget the the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop..." the world may never know
which attitude Mother Nature has for my leaving/returning.

Thanks Bob, I'm presuming you guys did okay as well...?

I certainly don't know all of the codes/regulations, etc. but it seems as
though some of the building codes are beginning to catch up to reality. I
believe the roofs are supposed to be rated to 110 mph winds... but that
really isn't sufficient for hurricanes and tornadoes - 'storms' yes, but the
really nasty stuff, no. <sigh> Perhaps when the 'code writers' homes are
damaged...then maybe things will change. LOL

Thank you sir!

Thank you ma'am!

I found out today that a lot of homes and business just a few miles (10 km?)
away are without power and/or have several feet of water on their property!
One fellow said he was having to find a place to move his family because the
water in their yard is over 24" deep (62 cm)!

Still no power (air conditioning is reall missed), I'm posting with generator
power (and power conditioners to protect the PC.

I kept my Kamados cooking most of the weekend...neighbors brought food and
cooked when there was open grill space. 2 BBQ'ed briskets and 3 pulled pork
butts disappeared from my freezer (all consumed, *not* someone's dog)

BOB
watching them clear the trees out of the downed power lines in the back yard

Snort! Yeah, but if Ivan comes through I might be wishing that...!
Actually, we (Rick & I) discussed that just 2 days ago. A friend of his
changed jobs and the new job sounded rather attractive. Hmmm, do you
suppose we could just call up the people that bought our house up there and
tell them "we changed our mind" and get our house back? <G> Pfft, as much
as I hate moving... I just don't know if I've got it in me to do it again,
this soon! Of course, we don't get the beautiful fall season down here as
what we had up in Armpit....

Yes. <giggle> Although, I did hear recently though that they actually have
a lot of earthquakes... oh, and I hate COLD. snort! I believe I'll be
reconsidering this choice next summer when the temps are staying in the
upper 90s and the humidity feels like it's double that in percentage!

Thanks for the very generous offer. We're completely back to normal (well, as
normal as can be expexted with Ivan out there). Next time the power goes out,
by throwing 2 switches and starting a generator, I'll have power to everything
but the A/C and water heater. by turning off other things, I'll have hot water
in an hour or so.
