One part of our holiday meal yesterday was fresh corn on the
cob. My friends were surprised to see that we have a set of
plastic corn "boats" with two-pronged "stickers" that go in
each end for easy eatin'. I want to buy a set for one friend,
but when I checked eBay, I didn't find much. Anyone know what
I'm talking about, and what do *you* call them?

A google search for "corn holders" turned up hundreds of links but

In our house the 'stickers' are called 'corn thingies'. ;o)
I prefer the screw on ones but I've seen different models: 2 pronged, 1
barbed plastic prong (those are Tupperware and I really don't like them) &
screw-on. They're usually available at the dollar stores and the grocery
stores.
Now the ear-of-corn-shaped plates/containers I haven't seen in a while.

That figures. Does anyone know if there is a commonly used but more
specific name for these sets than "corn holders".

Thanks Steve, but I wanted to find her a set, not just the "stickers"
(that's what Mom always called 'em). And that price seems steep to me,
but then I've never had to buy them myself...

OH... Sorry - I think that I know what you mean now. The boat kind of
thingie with the stickers built into it?? Yeah, I don't know what
those are called but I'll "poke" around.

Nope, I can't find 'em either but if I run across them I'll post.
All I could come up with was the "boat" and separate holders which

I haven't seen the plastic corn dishes as of late. The pottery ones are
a pretty common flea market item, in the realm of a buck a piece unless
they are marked Shawnee on the bottom, then they'll *usually* be more.
Otherwise it's a Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, Crate & Barrel sort of
thing. I bet the plastic one can be had at Wally World

I don't know from boats, but I have some screw-in cob holders from
Pampered Chef. You screw them into the corn cob before cooking -- they
cool immediately when you pull the corn out of the water. I don't
bother with them.

Sorry, I can't find what I think you're looking for either. The best
I've come up with so far is
http://www.cookscorner.com/product_...ept=100&last=87
But at least I think I know what you mean. I had a set of 'em a long
time ago. Maybe they don't make 'em anymore and the separate boats and
holders are your only choice.

Search for "corn holders" for the part that sticks or screws into the corn
cob. Search for "corn dishes" for the boat-shaped dishes to hold the corn.
The latter may also bring up some sets of both.

Why not just by the corn "stickers" separately? They're
cheap and readily available.

Instead of the 2 prong kind, I'd suggest pampered chef corn cob nobs.
You can put them in the cob before boiling it so you don't have to
handle the hot corn. they stay in better & don't rust.

Heh, you came up with the same page that Sheldon posted, and it's just
what I was looking for -- in particular, these are the items I wanted:

I just place my order (4 trays and 12 holders); with shipping it was
only about $10. Yay!

Sticker built in? Wouldn't that make it very difficult
to actually eat the corn. I've seen corn shaped plates
but the holders were separate.

You're welcome. I kinda like those green corn dishes. I can't remember the
last time I used corn holders though. For many years now the only way I cook
corn on the cob is in its husk, either in the nuker or on the grill. Then I
just skin back the husks, give em a little twist, and voila, a poifect corn
handle. I don't know why folks boil corn, everything about the concept is
pretty silly, especially since fresh corn is a mid summer thingie why would any
normal brained person choose to sweat up their kitchen by boiling an immense
pot of water during the hottest part of summer. Grilling corn is so easy...
and it tastes much better than that soggy boiled style... the cooking water has
more flavor.

Yeah, believe me they were a p.i.t.a. but that's what I thought he was

Hmmm, I can think of several regulars that I'm curious to see.
Not Barb, though; I got to see her photo on a jar of Gedney's
