STAR economy peeler - CLICK HERE for the Cooking Forum Index
Paul
Anyone have an idea where I could find a Canadian source for the harp
shaped Star vegetable peeler.
The item is called the Star economy peeler. Made of stainless steel by
the Swiss company Zena (who have yet to reply to email inquiries).

If you have ever had to opportunity to use one of these razor sharp
little wonders you know why I want to find a replacement.

If it were any good you'd not be looking for a replacement. Stainless steel
bladed peelers SUCK! I've been using the same *carbon steel* bladed peeler for
nigh on 50 years, razor sharp, and just gets sharper with use.

This site has a stainless peeler that looks like the Star from the Zena
site. Is this the one?

I've got that peeler and slicer - from the State Fair a year ago. The
peeler is great! Slicer makes really thin slices of cucumber, too.
Almost too thin for my preference.

I'll bet it'd make great, thin slices of beet, too!

I LOVE that kind of peeler! I have one....
but it's in storage with all my possessions in another state. They're
hard to find - I've looked all over the place and am having a hard time
using the "old" kind.

But....if you go to QVC.com and put "peeler" in the search box, you'll
find a set of two for about $12.

What, are you a mindreader? I just cooked some beets for jelly. I'll
be throwing out the beets momentarily. I do them in the pressure cooker
- doesn't stink up the place nearly so much as in a regular kettle.
I've boiled the hell out of the tops, too, and will have those for
supper. That's the only edible part of the disgusting vegetable. (Ya
big poop!) ;-P

Not really, although I've tried.

The beet tops are one of my favorite green leafy veggies! As for the root part,
pickled is about the only way I like 'em, and no, I don't mean the
store-bought-types. Maybe it was all the other "stuff" that was in there, too?
Ida know, but a dearly departed friend made the best.

These greens took a whale of a lot of cooking. I shoulda chucked the
stems - that's the tough part.

Since I've been cookin' the greens for a few years, I've learned to trim them
out of the leaves. Then the greens are much better and don't take as long to
cook.
