ALthough I am years away from collecting Social Security, some of you may find
this interesting.

Since many of you have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social
Security check every month--and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85%
of the money we paid to the federal government to "put away for us", you may be
interested in the following:

Q: Which party took Social Security from an independant fund and put it in the
general fund so Congress could spend it? (Gee, wish I'd thought of that.)

A: The Democrat controlled House and Senate under Lyndon Johnson.

Q: Which party decide to tax Social Security? (OH, what a great idea!)

A: The Democratic Party

Q: Which party increased the tax on Social Security? (Brilliant!)

A: The Democratic Party with Al Gore casting the deciding vote.

Q: Which party decided to give Social Security to immigrants even though they
had paid NOTHING into it? (WOW, another great idea)

A: That's right, the Demo's did it to us again.

Then, after doing all this, the Democrats turn around and tell us the
Republicans want to take our Social Security. John Kerry said the Republicans
wanted to reduce your Social Security in a speech to a group of old folks
living in Florida.

And the funny part about it is, the dumb Democrats believe it.

And what's really sad is that despite warnings by Alan Greenspan,
the Republicans have been dipping into the Social Security Trust
Fund over the past few years to help pay for some of their wild
spending habits. And why isn't Bush being labeled as a flip flopper
for having said he would "treat the Social Security Trust Fund like
a box" to quote him, yet he has done nothing to stop the raping
of that lock box under his watch?

I really hope you don't believe that! Dipping into the SS fund has
been going on for decades...even before Bush 41.

I find it interesting that government sources
are blaming the baby-boomer retireees
for running SS into the ground.

Odd... they never complained when the
baby-boomer generation made record payments
into the Social Security system....
for the last forty-five years.

I would have *much* rather been "forced" to put the exact same amount
(with the employers contribution) into a private fund in my name and
not been able to touch it, for the last 40 years! Lemme have it when I
am of "age". No problem. You have any idea how much would be in that
account?

it's the republicans who are most upset about the 1/2 trillion
deficit, and more entitlement giveaways (eg. prescription drug bill)
from hard-working republican pockets to undeserving dem pockets, of
which, social security is a prime example. if anyone is going to kill
social security, it's going to be a second bush term.

And the funny part is that people believe everything they get in

It is what they want anyway. They want to bankrupt any and all social
systems in place and that way they can tell people they can't pay them
because we are broke.

You are so correct. I am not sure but I do believe it was back in the
'60s sometime when Congress voted and made all SS funds to be part of
the General fund and therefore being open to be used for whatever they
deemed as necessary.
