I suppose everyone that participates is ready for the little goblins to
ring the doorbell this evening. Anyone have any other party plans? I'm
home alone tonight so I'm doing nothing special. I'll have left over roast
beef made into sandwiches with horseradish cream. I think I'll make a pot
of soup and a small salad also. We way overbought candy. We only get a
handful of trick or treaters and we have tons of candy and I bought a big
box of individual serving size Cheetos also. I'll take them for lunch
next week if we don't hand them out. The mini Milkyways will be the last to
be given out. Those are mine! They'll only be given out if everything else
is gone.

We never get any kids to our door, so we did not even bother to do a
jack-o-lantern this year, but I feel like I spoiled dad's fun... (he
does a wonderful one every year!) so we will probably try to find a
pumkin today for him. ;-)
I plan to make some buffalo wings. They are thawed and ready for frying.
I may start a fire, load them onto a foil boat and roast them in the
smoker. We shall see. ;-)
No candy. We don't need it! <lol> Might do a cheesecake instead!

Here in the Salt Lake area, trick or treating on a Sunday is uncommon. So
the goblins were out last night (trick or treating the night before was
called Beggar's Eve when I was growing up, and was generally discouraged no
matter what day of the week it was) and they glommed every crumb of the
candy I had available for them! The little ones came knocking at about 4:00
pm, but it wasn't until 6:00 pm that the relatively more mature spooks came
in a steady flow that lasted for nearly three hours. By the time the elder
teens started grubbing, the treats were exhausted and my porch lights were
off.
Party? Only my daughter went out. I stayed home to greet the kiddies and
gush at costumes -- lots of ladybugs and fairy princesses, a nerd with taped
eyeglasses and a pocket protector that must have had twenty pencils in it, a
belly dancer in full veil... you get the idea. Not bad, considering it had
threatened rain and snow all evening and did finally snow at midnight.
With snow in the air, I had a bowl of hot "Country Bean Soup" and an equally
warming nightcap before heading off to bed. Who needs socks! ;)

We just moved into a very nice neighborhood with lots of families, so we
expect to have tons of little trick-or-treaters coming to our door tonight.
This will be the first time for our little goblin (21 months old) to go
trick-or-treating, so we're looking forward to that.
Really cool neighbors here (people actually INTERACT with one another--very
different from our last neighborhood, where everyone just kept to
themselves), and we've received word that tiki torches will be lit and
everyone will be out partying in the street.
Even though the weather's still hot here, we're going to fire up the smoker
and drive all the neighbors crazy with the wonderful smells of Qed pork
butt. We'll serve it with the usual--tater salad, coleslaw, and my yummy
sauce. Who knows--maybe we'll feel generous and share some with the
neighbors...

Here in Germany:
We have had our first trick or treaters since we have been here 3
years . Most have only had on a witch’s hat on and some make-up. I did
see that in the stores in town did have more things this year. I do
hope the children will be able to enjoy it for a few years before it
is ruined for them.

didn't know what to expect. We got some Reese's sticks and snack-size
Snickers. We got a few kids we didn't know, along with our next door
neighbor's 13-year-old and two of her friends. I was a bit surprised
that the college students in the ghetto across the street didn't show
up--I used to get Ithaca College students at my apartment when I was in
grad school years ago.
I dressed up to meet the moochers as a representative of the "Department
of Home Security". I wore a colander on my head (it can double as a gas
mask), and defended myself against invaders with duct tape and Saran
wrap, a rolling pin, and a pasta fork.
OB Food: Dinner was braised lamb chops with baked acorn squash and
brussels sprouts.

We had a huge turnout this year. There were kids from other neighborhoods
that are brought in by bus or van to trick or treat in the "safer" areas, so
we ended up with about 5 pieces left out of 10 bags of candy.
We usually take our daughter and my niece trick or treating around our area,
with one of us staying behind for that part of the evening to hand out
candy. Then we all go to the Great Pumpkin. This is a way cool set up that
our neighbors have been doing for 40 years now. Anyone curious can check it

It's really a treat for the kids.
We always decorate a bit more, shall we say, enthusiastically, than most
people...Halloween is a big deal around our house. We have zombies, demons,
a giant tarantula complete with victim, a life-size vampire bat/man,
gargoyles, corpses, tombstones, spiderwebs, and of course, a giant
slobbering rat. On Halloween night, my brother in law sets the lighting and
then the fog machines. Tonight it was me who stayed to hand out candy, and
it was cracking me up that the one thing that scared kids the most was the
fog! They'd be fine seeing the monsters and ghoulies, but the second that
fog would roll in they'd get scared. It was funny.
Anywho, after the trick or treaters slow down to a slow trickle, we leave
the rest of the candy out and go get something to eat and check out the
costumes at the Halloween parties about town and in Hillcrest and the
Gaslamp. There's always some very elaborate ones. Tonight my favorite was a
character from the Dark Crystal.

the ham radio club. By my count, 97 goblins, some not so little, rang my
doorbell.
It was nice to hear older kids exclaim 'Sweet! Something to drink!' when I
deposited a juice box on top of the 30 or 40 bags of chips in their bags.
The first 54 got juice, the next 40 or so got mini bars and cheats (kept for
last in the hopes that not so many kids would show up).

I had maybe 20 kids show up --- mostly youngsters, which was a change --- so
I have plenty of leftover mini candy bars. Some went into the freezer, a
few left out for me, the rest came into the office to tempt others.
Dinner was braised pork chops, with baked Delicata squash rings. I debated
cooking sprouts, but ended up just munching on raw brocolli.

I bought more stuff than the past couple, because Halloween was on
Sunday and I'd be home earlier. Then the rain started right at T-or-T
time. I got more than some years, but still ended up with a fair amount
of Milkyways and Heaths left. Darn.

The kids in my neighborhood flaked out again. Only had the doorbell
ring three times.
I'd been sneaking M&Ms and twizzlers all day.
This morning I took a huge basket of starburst, twizzlers and m&ms to
the local fire company. They can use them to bribe the kids to clean
the station and trucks, etc.
The firechief took a bag of m&ms right away, which makes me wonder if
it's really gonna work the way I imagined.

We had 60 kids -- no teens that I noticed, so I didn't get to lay on my
current events quiz for them. Maybe that's why they stayed away from my
house. :-)
After DD and I got home from trick or treating with La Twerp, Beck
answered the door and handed out the goods. Two fun-size bars per kid.
Leftover are a box of mini-size microwave popcorn bags and a big bag of
individual bags of Doritos and Cheetos. It works for me.
