Well, your question can be interpreted in at least four different ways:

1. Where were you born?
2. Where were you raised?
3. Where do you call home?
4. Where are you currently living?

It seems to me that the first interpretation is the most TECHNICALLY close
to your question, but that datum is almost meaningless if you only spent a
year or two of your life in that location.

So what do you mean? (Oh, and I'll throw you an easy one: You can probably
guess where "sf" lives!)

That's a loaded question. Some people are touchy about what they
consider an attempt to encroach upon their privacy, others are
already appearing through anonymous remailers, so seeing as you're
asking where *everyone* is from, please be aware that you are
unlikely to get a satisfactory answer. Also, if everyone here were
to answer, it would probably jam up the networks. There are many
more lurkers than posters, I suspect.

As for me, I could say I am not from Racine Wisconsin. That would be
eminently true and should instruct you sufficiently to know that I am
not likely to be living on your street. But as I am not one of the
paranoid ones, I will reveal that I live in Ottawa, number 7 on the
Getty hit list:

Yes, I live in the capital of maybe not the richest and maybe not the
most powerful, but certainly the kewlest nation in North America :-)

Not only kewl 12 months of the year, but currently also cold, with a
predicted high of -17C with snow (I suspect closer to -25C with
windchill) and a predicted minimum of -23C overnight although it will
likely be much worse than that.

Today's menu includes eating some of whatever we have in the fridge
because ain't nobody going out in that stuff...

I live in a culinary paradise. SW Louisiana in the heart of Cajun Country and
not that far from New Orleans (2 hour drive). I was born and raised in another
entirely different type of culinary paradise-Pennsylvania Dutch country and
most of my relatives are still in Lancaster, PA and Philadelphia. Eating and
cooking have been a passion since I can remember and all my kids cook very
well. One is a professional. We are happiest in the kitchen and feeding
others.

All our conversations end up about food.

Currently I am working with people from Costa Rica and have discovered their
fabulous coffee.

Now, FEED ME.

Don't, actually.

Except for cooking.

People in different places draw upon diverse culinary habits, methods,
ingredients, traditions and maybe even inspirations. You don't look
for tacos al carbon in Manitoba with the same expectations you would
have in San Antonio. I've had some righteous po boys in numerous
locations, but none have surpassed the ones I ate at Fiorella's in the
French Quarter. I've had wonderfull raw oysters in New Orleans and
even Dallas, but none better than the Hog Island oysters I had at
Point Reyes in Northern California. And while the oysters were
superb, I'd never imagine asking for scrambled okra in such a place,
while here in Cow Hill, I made a pan of it for dinner last night.

Just a thought from one bald guy to another.

Scrambled okra:

Heat a cast iron skillet over a medium low flame and add enough olive
oil to cover the bottom. Add about two tablespoons of diced onion and
cook slowly till it begins to lightly caramelize. Add the contents of
a bag of frozen cut okra and some salt and cook slowly, adjusting the
heat as needed to maintain a slow sizzle, but prevent burning. The
aim is to caramelize the okra and reduce the water fom the slime till
it's slimeless. It should take about 1/2 hour with gentle stirring
over a low-medium low flame. At the very end of cooking, I like to
splash in a few drops of hot sauce.

Well, this is what I get for bragging - it was 63° F on the way home
tonight. Nearly froze to death. <veg>

If this weren't a public forum and I knew you better, I'd say... well,
nevermind.

It's currently 3°F and dropping like a rock. I did make a great batch of
chili today though as a consolation.

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dogs face they get mad at
you but when you take them for a ride in the car they stick their head
out of the window?

DH & I have recently relocated to the Eugene, Oregon area we're finding the
people are friendly and the local cider is the best I've had since I was a kid
in PA. Looking forward to spring when the farmer's market will be up & running
again. Right now it's great soup weather - they're predictinga chilly 29
degrees tonight.
Wishing a Merry Christmas to all...

C'mere, Girlie. I've got just the cheese to go with that whine. You
gonna send me your new address or not? You'll never get a jar of that
Cherry Jam otherwise!

Email me... sfpipeline @ you can figure out the rest, if
you're interested in joining us for souffle in January. No
pressure... you will be a consumer of the souffle, not a
manufacturer. So, don't feel intimidated.

Your part in this experiment will be to give us a break if
our souffle falls flat. Anything else you want to
contribute is up to you.

Well, you DO have "seasons" and that's a good thing.

I think snow is great when I'm indoors (and warm) looking
out a picture window, but I don't want to contend with the
below xx below zero factor and shoveling out the driveway
daily during winter. So, it's all relative.

I'd rather visit snow country these days, not live in it.
Been there, done that... I'm long past wishing for a white
xmas. I'm at the warmer, the better stage now. In fact -
I'm hoping it won't rain.

Your accent is all wrong. Don't try to pull the wool over
their ears with your tales of California and Hawaii. They
can tell an outsider at 10 paces and they call 'em Yankee.

True story, but I'm not going to sound like "them" to appease the masses.
They have to learn to deal with "real" English, I "reckon". HA!
