Can't be because it's 50% Emeril and 30% Iron Chef which only leaves 20% for
everyone else.

There is very little of Emeril or Rachel Ray on Food Network Canada. Emeril Live
and $40 A Day are each on a few times each week. It's a nice change. Iron Chef I
can do without. That should be a half hour show on the Comedy Network.

Agreed. I hate Iron Chef and most of the food is revolting. I am so
sick of Emeril and think they should cut him down. At least Rachel is
upbeat and fairly interesting especially on 40$. I wish they would do
re runs of the fat ladies. Those were so interesting and entertaining.

I've never seen it mentioned, but the Discovery Channel has a pretty
good cooking lineup on Tuesdays with Cookin' in Brooklyn, License to

Cookin' in Brooklyn?? I've never heard of this
show. I must look into it, it sounds wonderful!
I also agree with a previous poster that bringing
back repeats of The Two Fat Ladies would be very
enjoyable.

I would like to see more reuns of the old Galloping Gourmet show when Kerr
was tipsy and silly. It was much more interesting that the new health

So? If you don't like Rachel Ray that means you have 70% of other food
network shows to watch or change the channel to one of the other 70+
channels to watch. Then there is DVD or video tape as well.

Are you confused, or just an idiot? Graham Kerr and Trina are
"born-again" Christians and health nuts - with no scandalous past that
I've ever heard of. You're probably thinking of the Frugal Gourmet.
No convictions, and a bunch of money grubbing whores who waited 20
years until he was rich to suddenly remember he "molested them", may
they rot in Hell. No court, no conviction. Contrast this with the
bitch Martha Stewart who was convicted of a federal crime and should
be in a "real" prison for several more years, and she's doing better
than ever - We jokingly refer to Dish Network as the Martha Channel.
I guess it's the Oprah Syndrome - poor Martha, the "victim".

I wash and take the head off okra then split it in quarters lengthwise
and sauté it with a sprinkling of spices. I serve it as a side with
meat. Otherwise, I can sauté it and add it to pilafs or couscous.

Yup, it's a veggie. Nope, I don't scramble it like eggs. I took to
calling it that after an article in Saveur magazine used the term.
Before that I just cooked it. I use an iron skillet and gently sizle
it over medium heat (with olive oil) till the slime is reduced and the
okra caramelizes. It takes about an hour or maybe less.

My god wolfie, you can be such a bloody idiot. You should consider thinking
before you speak or do a little research before you make an ass of yourself
publicly. Maybe even a short course in reading comprehension might be helpful.
You must be thinking of Jeff Smith, The Frugal Gourmet. Please not the
difference between the names Graham Kerr and Jeff Smith and between The
Galloping Gourmet and The Frugal Gourmet. Kerr hosted a cooking show back in
the late 60's and early 70s.

You'll have to pardon the wolf. He has rarely been known to demonstrate
much in the way of informed opinion.
There was nothing scandalous that I ever heard of. It is just that he was
either half cut during his shows or else he was acting drunk and silly. I
learned a lot from his shows as he suggested the importance of cooking with
various styles, which made things easier than trying to cope with specific
recipes. He was entertaining and informative. Somewhere along the way he
found religion and lost his charm, IMO.

It's not your imagination -- it's FoodNetwork's lack of it *laugh*
They are going to to burn her (and us) out on Rachel Ray Shows. Interestingly
of her 3 shows only 1 is actually a cooking show (although it's aired at least
3x a day). They sort of did this same burn-out thing to Sara for a while
there-- she was sporting a few shows and several hours a day of network
time. I think they'd have plastered Emeril to several shows if he had been
versatile enough (well there was that attempt at a sit-com for him *rolls
eyes*). I like RR and I think she is a very talented lady- FN seems to agree.
I guess their philosophy is get it *all* while it's hot.
Burn out is imminent, though. I already have luke-warm feelings about Inside
Dish and 40 dollars a day. They both seem like filler-fluff shows to me- one
is basically an advertisement for the tourist industry ( like who couldn't get
by on 40$ a day for one person? Seriously-- *laughs* how about 40 bucks for 2
people? Then we'd be talking some real smackaletti) and ID is just another
*talk show* venue for actors although it does have its own little twist (sorta
amazing how many actors have their own restaurants-- I'd kinda like ta see
Clint Eastwoods alleged (chuckles) *handicap-access* at Mission Ranch for
myself-- can we do that FN?)

ROTFLMAO!
I so agree with this! Here comes the official question:
Who is Bobby Flay blowing at FN to get all this air time? Seriously the guy
sucks in every possible way. (pun intended)
I definitely do not GAS that he is opening his 3rd restaurant in Las Vegas- I
can't imagine why FN would give him a special about it. The only Flay show
that ever semi-interested me was his special about the high school chefs (Bobby
Flay, Mentor--rotflmao) yet through the whole thing I couldn't help but think
to myself this is sorta about one-upping the Naked Chef. I watched that special
as well - it was far more interesting even if things didn't work out as well as
in Bobby's little special. And I'll say this - Jamie put a lot more on the
line for his kids than Flay did. You can say Flay is the wiser of the two, but
I think it just demonstrates his tendency to be all flash and show with very
little human substance. And was that a 2 hour special on his new restaraunt?
(omg puke) I switched back to FN hoping it would be over and Flay was still on
when I went to bed.
Last bitch about Bobby *laughs*
As far as I am concerned Iron Chef America jumped the shark before they even
really got started the moment they let Bobby Flay *win* against Iron Chef
Sakai. I'm not buying that, and I doubt most of America buys that Flay
actually beat Sakai. That is such an insult to the collective intelligence.
It all leads back to the question.... Who is Bobby blowing at FN?

I can appreciate that. I saw the listing for his new show and checked it out
because I used to enjoy the Galloping Gourmet shows. It was entertaining and
very informative, and that was back in the days when there were very few cooking

Bwahaha...Wolfie thinks God is outlawed in Canada?? He's been
listening to those vacuous pinheads at Fox News Network again. Just
for the record, the usual suspect is mentioned in the English version
of the national anthem:
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
but not in the French version (which was the original version as
well) as it is an ultramontane manifesto. The English one relied
more heavily on the birds, the bees and the farces of nature.

Heh ... it's that meandering song that someone parodied ... Oh Canada, you

Funny skit.

No. I did not forget Bruno Gerussi. I had the pleasure of meeting him
once, and my sister in law was one of the guest celebrity's on his show.
My wife and I got a kick out of that because she is not a cook. Her then
husband had to suggest an easy dish and show her how to do it. We used to
get Galloping Gourmet, Celebrity Cooks and Julia Child. Some of the
morning shows had a brief cooking segment, but there was no Food TV
channel. I live in the boonies and had no access to cable. CBC carried
Celebrity Cooks and, later on, The Urban Peasant. My limited VHF pulled
in American PBS stations with the occasional cooking show. Now there are
all sorts of cooking shows available. There are a lot more of them on
PBS, Food TV, Food TV Canada and who knows how many others.

Nobody is shoving anything down my throat :-)
Like it or not, constitutional issues apply to everyone. You should
understand that, since you live in a land that claims to have been founded
with the idea that all (white) men are equal.

It probably will happen when the laws that prevent same sex marriages may
be unconstitutional. What difference should it make to you? Look at the
bright side, when homosexuals are free to exist in our society they will
stop being pressured into marrying heterosexuals and breeding more people
with homosexual genes :-)

That is no surprise in a country in a land where "reality" shows and Jerry
Springer are popular. Just let's call it entertainment and stop pretending
that it is an unbiased and truthful source of current events.

Okra is slimy. It's used in some gumbo recipes as a thickener because
of its mucilagenous properties. I once speculated that okra was
present in Colerige's Ancient Mariner's ocean: "The very deep did
rot/Oh Christ, that this should ever be!/ Yeah, slimy things did crawl
with legs/ Upon the slimy sea."
However, if you reduce the moisture content via slow sizzling, you can
end up with a sweet, caramlized, deliciously slimeless side dish.

Well I think she is cute and out off all the non cooking
shows I like hers the best. Not because of her looks but basically
all around she is a very charming young lady.
I must admit tho.. when I first heard about Rachel Ray $40 a day
that sounded like a bargain. I just didn't know they were talking about
food.
I think the reason she has so much air time is because her
shows get watched a lot but I don't think that is enough.
I think she is also very likeable and charming that goes a long way when
looking for a job, but I hope they do not burn her out.
My favorite show is Good Eats.

Thank you. I've probably never had it because it's not a vegetable that we
grow here in Ontario -although I have seen it in stores. Sounds interesting
(if I can get past the slimey part).. I'm going to buy some and experiment!
I make a lot of soup and don't really care to add flour - this might work

Don't have cable any more, so don't get to watch FoodTV, and I miss it
a lot. Always enjoyed, Rachel! She's a hottie and had some great easy
recipes to boot. Not the greatest chef on tv, but the most feminine and
a great personality. I hope they bring some reruns of Julia back by the
time I have cable again!

She was made an example of. She stupidly did what any of the rest of us
would do when told the head of a company you or I owned stock in dumped
his - she dumped it. Now, being a former stock broker and an officer of
a publicly traded company, she knew better and probably realized she
knew better a few seconds too late.
The unpardonable act was to cover up her, and her broker's, mistake. If
she had turned on the broker and admitted she screwed up when the broker
improperly called her and offered to pay a fine and restitution that
probably would have been the end of it. As it was, the SEC HAD to find
someone who wasn't a friend of George that they could prosecute.

Right. There are not many judges on the Supreme Court, but they tend to be among
the most qualified, despite a marked preference for political positions.

That's odd. They sure ate it up when Fox was ranting about Canada denying them a
licence to broadcast by satellite in Canada despite the fact that their licence
application had not been denied. Sorry, but it is hard to accept that Fox is an
alternative to biased reporting when it is the single worst offender when it
comes to deliberate misinformation. What they have going for them is an audience
that is too stupid to realize it.

I've tried it a few times at various places. Resteraunts, folks houses,
etc. and it's always been slimey. *bleech!* I suppose it's possible
that everywhere I tried it didn't know how to prepare it properly but
it's never been in my kitchen, nor will it. Just plain nasty.

I also met him once at Stratford at my uncle's house. He had just
dropped in for company. His wife had just recently committed suicide
and he was rather disjointed, but a very pleasant person as I recall.
This would have been summer 1963 or 1964.
I think it was Chris Plummer who went on Celebrity Cooks and claimed
to have my uncle's recipe for ragoût de boulettes. I was there in
Stratford when my mother walked him through the recipe because he
missed it so much.
I think they just collected recipes from various celebrities and then
had other celebrities prepare them.

to me the top photo looks like it took some trimspa.
the one of her with her feet in the sink looks like photo had lipo suction
on the tummy.
however I still cant find anything wrong with the pic of her licking the
spoon that picture looks fine so far.
honestly I kinda like the way she looks on the show better. I didn't really
like those pics that much lol
I cant believe I said that. to me I just think she is pretty but not sexy
in pictures. however at $40 a day
that is what she would have been wearing for at least 3 years.

I've seen one of her shows, and it was interesting and upbeat. She's
got a pleasant smile and it's plastered on every one of her cooking
books. I looked at one of her 20-minute meal books because I'm
always looking for a good meal without much work, but when I saw
the many vegetables one recipe called for being sliced and diced,
I had to laugh. Just cutting up the vegetables themselves would
take me 40 minutes.

I do not understand how anyone can stomach her. I watched one show that was
promoted locally because she visited some local restaurants. She seems to
have taken a whole bottle of "cute and perky" pills and it's enough to make
a maggot vomit. Then she praised to high heaven food that I know from
personal experience is mediocre at best.

I seem to like Rachel the person. She reminds me a lot of my
step-daughter. Now Rachel the cook...

That's one of the good things about a good constitution in a democracy. It
protects minorities from the majority. At one time the majority believed it was
quite acceptable to own slaves.

Sure he does, and as long as he has his fact right his valid points might be
duly considered even by American bashing Canadians. However, my limited
experience to FOX tells me that they not only slap an extreme bias on their
content, they out and out lie. A few months ago I caught a segment on one of
their shows where the host was getting everyone all worked up about their
application to broadcast in Canada being rejected. That digressed into Canada
refusing to help in the war on terror and never helping them out. It was an
incredible display of malicious lying and misinformation. Their application had
not been rejected. It had just recently been made and a decision had not been
made, and it was expected to go through. Canada was helping in the mid east and
in the war on terror. Our ships were still patrolling in the gulf, Canadian
troops were in Afghanistan helping Americans in the fight against the Taliban
and al-Queada. The only place Canada was not helping was in the unjustified
invasion of Iraq. We did not believe there were WMDs, the excuse that Bush was
using to invade, and BTW the US just yesterday officially ended it search for
WMDs, concluding that there were none.

We will agree to disagree. Sodomy and perversion is not an ethnicity to
be protected by a loophole in the law.

Here's how I see it. Saddam flouted un sanctions for years, kofi annan
is a jive ass "" If 9/11 hadn't happened Saddam would still be kicking
back with his Johnie Walker Black and Viagra raping and torturing
millions.
A wise man once said **** Happens so here we are:
Will the US repeat history and make the same mistakes as the UK Ballfour
Declaration? We will see......
The US media are by and large a bunch of seditious cocksuckers
overwhelmingly liberal.

Her celebrity, this Fri, is going to be Aisha Tyler. That oughta be a hoot.

What are we disagreeing about? It's not my sexual preference, but I don't see
why the government is concerned about sexual activity between consenting adults.
And it is not a loop hole. It's the constitution, the same one that grants
rights in other matters.

Flouting UN sanctions? He claimed he had no WMDs. He quite understandably
resented outsiders poking around. He hd no WMDs. He didn't have much of an army
left after the Gulf War, but he still had enemies, both at home and abroad.
Sure he was a ruthless dictator. You guys didn't mind that when he was warring
with Iran. You even helped him out. You haven't minded other ruthless dictators
if they were in American pockets. Bush had a pickle up his butt about Saddam and
disregarded the advice of his anti terrorism staff. He didn't want to know about
al Queda. He wanted them to find a link to Iraq, and when they failed to do that
he replaced them with people who fed him the faulty information that he used to
justify an invasion. 9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq.

More like Vietnam.

Overwhelmingly seditious cocksuckers because they faulted the Bush
administration for invading Iraq to rid it of WMDs ?? There weren't any. They
admitted months ago that they didn't think there were any. They officially ended
the search for them this week. They admitted that their intelligence was
faulty.
