Greetings Sheldon, Melba and the rest of the old timers!

I have returned to Usenet after purchasing a Mac, totally Mac proud
now, and getting a GMail addy to prevent spam from reaching my primary
mail box.

I have missed you all and am glad to back.

During the past several years, I have been busy moderating/owning
several food groups at Yahoo, working as a reporter, but have now
semi-retired. Hubby plans to retire in a couple years too and we plan
on taking a cruise to Canada. At least I hope to see the inland passage
to Alaska. Can't wait to get there.

I'm down to two cats after having four. Sadly, I lost one cat to a
coyote, and two under mysterious circumstances. Currently the two
"boys" keep me busy with their purring, meowing, playing, etc.

Any way, it's nice to be back.

Welcome back. Glad to see you. Sorry about the cats. I wish Hoot was more
friendly. The only time she wants to see me is when I'm sick. Then she sits
on my chest just purring like crazy. She was so sick as a kitten. Several
operations. She had a herniated diaphram and lots of other problems. We
found her drowning in a mud puddle. Vets think someone threw her out of a
car. She weighed 1 and a half pounds and they could not even get an IV
needle in her. They sold us this *really* expensive food. I don't even
remember what it was. Boy it packed weight on her quickly and then she went
into surgery. No one at the vets office could believe her quick recovery. I
called after her surgery and I could hear her screaming for food.

She ran to me after I went to pick her up. I had to sleep with her and
monitor her for days and get up every 4 hours. Now she hates me but loves
Steven. My cat hates me and Steven's dog loves me. Go figure. Shelly the
cocker spaniel loves us both. LOL... as an aside, Hoot's chart at the vets
has Use Extreme Caution. She just ripped the snot out of a tech. When we go
in, the vet makes us hold her down. He will not even call in a tech to
help.

I don't see it. Xnews has really screwed up.I need to find a new news
reader. Charter is no good. Xnews has been great up to now. I keep getting
repeat messages and some I do not see. Tis time for a change. I am snacking
on egg salad good rye bread and bib greens. I am a scrounge right now. I'm
afraid of falling in the shower. The egg salad is really good. It's got
home made mayo, small dice of celery and onion. That's about it. I can not
remember what else I put in it. Damned, I've got to record this stuff.

Sorry about the ping. I've got to find a new news reader.

I'll just paste it here - the topic was "you jinxed me"

Well, I never tasted Ensure before, or thought about it until your
recent post. I have now been (doc's orders) living on that and
Gatorade since Friday. Today a group is meeting for the "Spring is
here" intro to picnic season. Ham, deviled eggs, baked beans and tons
of junk. I will be drinking this foul brown liquid. You did this to
me.

I like Ensure. Well, it is an acquired taste. Sorry I did this to you. The
stuff is good but I can no longer drink it. No Ensure or Gatorade for me.
Too much sodium and carbs. I can no longer drink this stuff. Way too much
sugar. I've got to get ready for physical therapy. At least I get to see
hot bods. I'm wearing speedos and floating in a tub. Then they work on me.

I'm not having much fun lately. I can not get into the garden which pisses
me off. But I will. I see a dietitian this week. Hopefully I will get good
advice on diabetes. I am taking so many meds they are totally ******* me
up.

I despise the stuff, but I do see how someone could like it. I
remember it from '99 when I had a compound jaw fracture and was living
on the all-liquid diet for around 5 weeks (at which point I graduated
to hummus and tabouli, chewable food was another month or so). I
tried Ensure for a while, but eventually settled into a routine of
beer and smoothies from Crazy Carrot (a now-defunct chain of smoothie
stores in Minneapolis). When you hit the same smoothie bar three
times a day for weeks, you learn about a whole new level of regularity...

At one point my friends did have a cookout, and helpfully made me a
bratwurst smoothie, which was one of the most vile concoctions I've
ever seen. :)

Hey Michael - the last time I checked (today) XNews was a news reader,
not a news server, so don't blame it.

What you need to do first is COMPLAIN like crazy to your ISP about this
problem and demand they shape it up or find a better news server for
their subscribers. If they aren't interested, find yourself another
ISP... if that's impossible, there are still choices - but one of the
best news servers doesn't carry binaries, which means no ABF for you.

Why?

Mash
Ease of use and lack of crashing, corrupt files, viruses, worms, etc.
They also show "true" color a plus for web designers.

A good example was yesterday when I updated my personal web page. All I
had to do was drag and drop my files using Fetch and I was done. On the
PC I'd have to search for the correct directory before adding the
files. What used to take 10 minutes now takes less than a minute.
Literally within minutes I had finished my web page update with so
little effort.

Macs are bullet proof and the best operating machines. Hopefully the
rest of the world will realize how wonderful they are.

Exactly. Are they doing high-end graphics for a new movie? Are they
satisfied with doing nothin but buying a bunch of software and being
relegated to the task of mindless mouse-clicker? Happy to be out of
the mainstream? I can think of no other reasons to buy a Mac.

I guess that's in the eye of the beholder. They drive me crazy.

What do you mean by "crash"? If you mean freeze and a need to reboot,
I find the IMacs at my site are really bad that way.

A non-problem for this PC user.

LOL! As soon as you get your wish that MACs rule, the malicious code
writers will attack. MAC is not immune, it is the "underdog" and
attacked less.

I don't have a web page, so I wouldn't know. Sounds like a real dream
though. What program do you use? Hot Dog?

That's a bit smug and (IMO) a very innocent opinion.

Happy computing! Here in RFC, MAC and PC people have learned platform
tolerance... we even manage to get along with the occasional 'nix
rabble 'rouser who pops up.

Michael do you have a cane or even a walker? If you don't, please consider
using one until you become more ambulatory. We don't want any more
accidents to befall you! We want you happy and well :-)

Uh, no offense, but you're telling me just because you have a Mac, it
read your mind and knew exactly where everything was supposed to go?
Makes no sense to me.
Mash
X-No-Archive: yes

I'm using NVU or Mozilla to update web pages. I do know some HTML, but
not much, but my kids are teaching me. Some day I hope to write my own
web pages from scratch. I've used Hot Dog, long ago, and it is a good
program but when I used the program it was some what limited.

I use Fetch to drag and drop the files I need which are easily found on
a Mac. I've used other PC programs which were not as good as Fetch.

I like both PCs and Macs but the more I use the Mac the more I like the
machine.

AlleyGator I think what I wrote was fairly clear. Perhaps you had a
problem understanding how easy it is to use a Mac. I like both Macs and
PCs, still have a couple PCs I use, but the Mac is a wonderful machine
that does not depend on Windows which is unstable. Also the Windows
program is a security worm hole.

Macs are relatively stable and secure. Wish more people understood how
reliable Macs really are.

Remember Apple was the first company to bring about the personal
computer. It wasn't Bill Gates and it wasn't IBM.

A bratwurst smoothie. UGH. At least the thought was there ;) Did they put
kraut in it?

Bummer. I can't change ISPs. So I sent a complaint to Charter.

One brat, some mustard, some cooked onions, some kraut, and just
enough beer to get the consistency right.

I don't recommend it.
