Ewwww... I'm sorry but this really grossed me out. As curious and liberal
as I am about tasting, eating and drinking different things, these
cocktails are too much for me.

LIMA, Peru (Reuters) - Peruvian officials saved some 4,000 endangered frogs
from being whizzed into popular drinks after they were found hidden in an
abattoir.

"We were checking the fridges when out jumped a frog. It had escaped, they
were in big crates," a spokesman for Lima city hall said on Thursday.

Frog cocktails are popular in the Andes because of their supposed
aphrodisiac qualities. Shops in central Lima selling the drinks have tanks
where customers can choose their frogs.

He said the Telmatobius frogs -- which had apparently been brought from the
southern lakes in the high Andes -- were found on Wednesday stored in the
abattoir.

They were taken to a colonial fountain in central Lima to splash around
before being returned to their native lakes by ecological police.

"There were about 5,000 of them but 1,000 died because of the conditions
and in transit," the spokesman said.

Now that's an interesting turn of phrase. It's a shame they have to
use endangered frogs...

Gawd, I remember the summer I spent at my parent's weekend get away
vacation home at Lake of the Ozarks. My friends and I used to take one of
the boats and join the very drunken festivities at Party Cove. One late
afternoon a bunch of us, after sunbathing nude and drinking copious amounts
of alcohol, decided to bar hop. I'm surprised I was able to dock the boat.
Anyway, we went into this bar and the first thing I noticed was people
being served cocktails with a goldfish in each drink. The drinks had to be
chugged. I hurled on the spot and my swim trunks fell to my ankles. I was
mortified.

Michael <- now knows that boating and boozing do NOT mix
