Stupid ******* ('scuse!) nanny-arsed IMBECILES! Been hearing about this all
bloody day - who do these idiots think they are legislating the hell out of
our lives on some ignorance-fuelled whim? I'm SICK of these kinds of
things - where are our freedoms as individuals going FFS?!?!?
Shaun aRe - It'll not happen, but that is not my point, of course.

In the US, it'd be because of all the lawyers.
Are you folks up to your ears in litigious solicitors?
OTOH, a lady who had a butcher knife in her purse made it through
airport security. She said she forgot she'd put it in the previous
night on her way to meet a blind date.
The security personnel are being retrained....

Not me ;-)
Obviously, these idiots don't realize that you don't need a "long,
pointed" knife to stab someone fatally - airlines won't even allow a
2-inch blade on board. Maybe this group just wanted some publicity.

Exactly! Or a scalpel for that matter, think of the damage that does, in
the wrong hands. Are they gonna ban those next?

That is good news! The next step will be the introduction of a licensing
system for knives. Besides providing additional jobs for a couple of
thousands of civil servants required to administer this process, people
will have to provide some form of proof that they are capable of
handling large kitchen knives. As the primary use of these knives will
be related to cooking, one of the first documents that comes to mind
would be a certificate that one has successfully completed a cooking
course, similar to the requirement of having completed a firearms
competency course before applying for a gun license.
The net effect would be a lot of Brits going for cooking courses, and
given the current standard of British cooking, that can only be an
improvement.
Along the same lines, maybe they should set up a similar system for the
sale of hammers over a certain weight, capable of causing permanent
damage to the skull. No builders certificate (and union membership
card), no hammer. Exceptions could be made for holders of certain
cooking diploma's, who can defend the use of the instrument as a
tenderising hammer.

Oh, I shouldn't worry. Airline security is going to be much better
soon. Didn't you hear? They're instituting what amounts to manditory
strip searches of all passengers. Take a look at this....

It is, after all, so much cheaper than just putting locking,
bulletproof doors on the cockpits and air marshalls on board.

Retrained? They should have been fired on the spot.
