That was your mother's lucky day! As a kid having a Friday the 13th
birthday is a heck of a lot better than on Feb 29th.

I'm trying, I'm trying - was taken for a great birthday dinner on Saturday,
my daughter visited yesterday, my son called this morning and will be here
the coming weekend, and (laugh) where am I going ON my birthday?
The local Moose joint - now that's living it up!!

Not me - but a very good friend AND her daughter are Feb. 29th.
Birthdays were right up there with Christmas when I was a kid, so
having a real birthday once every four years would have been awful!

As a kid, I could never imagine the justice of someone having to wait four
years! Mom's birthday was December 29 - when she was a child, when she was
handed gifts on Christmas Day she would be told, "and it's your birthday
present, too." Poor kid.

My BIL's is Dec. 24th... so he had the same situation. I give him a
gag gift for his birthday with a birthday card and a regular gift for
Christmas. He LOVES it! One year I gave him a box of bullets because
he had gone target shooting every month... but his favorite gift is
still the perpetual motion machine.

Yes. It's man powered. You turn a crank, which puts all sorts of
gears and gizmos into motion... but accomplishes absolutely nothing.
It's a good metaphor for Joe Average's work-a-day world.
