sorry it seemed like I dropped out.... but for some reason nothing I
posted was showing up on my screen and I didn't see any responses, so
I logged off. It's getting late and I had to wind things up anyway.
Good night Damsel, Boli, Crash - and Kalahari (if you're still awake).
:)
sf
Yes, Christine.... we were chatting in the rfc applet

Darn!!!!
I checked into the server earlier, and saw no one on my notify list..so
I figured no one was there. But it was much earlier in the night
anyway.
Someone send me a note when you are all chatting! Of course, if I am
at work, then I won't get it til the next day.....

I wonder when Skype will overtake irc. Audio conference calling is
limited to 4 users, but that's gotta change!
Skype, for the most part is free but it's a telephone company venture and
does incur charges depending. www.skype.com
I'm not affiliated with Skype, just familiar with it, as my brother calls
me from his 'puter all the time! :(

Skype is wonderful. I usually chat to my son (in England) and my
daughter (in Germany) most days via our computers. Saves us a fortune.

Sorry, I was sound asleep :) Whenever I drop in lately only Crash is
around; we've had a couple of brief chats.

We've been using Vonage for about, gosh, 4 months now? The only problem we
have is if the cable connection goes out, but other than that, for $24.99 a
month and free unlimited long distance in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico,
you can't go wrong. There's also a referral thingy where if you get a
friend to sign up, they get a first month for free and the person who
referred them gets a couple of months for free. Just have a broadband
connection and you're in.

A friend of mine, in Italy, proposed me a thing similar to a chat, but
nearer to a telephone (you can also hear his voice, or see him with a web
cam). The program is called "msn messenger" look here:
http://messenger.msn.com
I don't know if you must pay something (he told me he doesn't pay).

This assumes you want to audio chat with someone. I despise talking on the
phone and to me it's the same thing. Yahoo messenger is free and offers
voice-chat. But things get garbled when people start laughing or talking
all at once. It became very annoying so I quickly got tired of that, too.
Call me old, I don't care; I'd rather just type. :)

Pandora a land line is a regular telephone line as in your house or
payphone instead of a cell phone that can go anywhere. If you use chat
programs it goes through your computer's modem that's connected to your
landline. This is not *always* the case as we can also connect using
our cell phones but I think you get the idea.

Google has Google Talk now. You need high speed for voice, but it can
also used for instant messanging. The nice part is it "rings" you if
you're online when someone wants to talk to you. I'm still learning
