I send this in a real quandry. TV Guide now sucks swamp water.I know
you maybe subscribe to TV Guide, so, want to tell you my TV Guide saga
.. I originally signed up for $13.00 a year (with a handy little
suitcase thing as a gift). When the year ran out, I didn't resubscribe,
until they sent me the same deal, a little suitcase thingy, + a year of
tv guide for $13.00. Who knew what was coming down the pike, so, I
signed up for 2 years at $25.00. I figured for 25=A2 an issue, how could
I go wrong, even if I needed special glasses which magnified the print
(already had a pair) to read the small print that the digital issue of
TV Guide became. But, at least they had all the stations, and, stuff
and fluff at the front of the magazine. Who cared. I wanted to know
what was on TV
Now, I do have digital TV, and, yes, there is an on-screen tv schedule.
So, didn't really need TV Guide, but, for 25=A2 a week, what's not to
like
Well, I got the new makeover issue of TV Guide. After about 30 minutes,
I had read the whole thing, called up TV Guide and cancelled
subscription. That piece of junk is not even worth 25=A2 a week. It has
eliminated many stations that I watch (it lists 1 Encore station--yet,
there are 7 stations on the Encore channels), and, unless you're
watching from 8-11 p.m., you're not going to be able to tell what is
on, on many favorite channels, because they simply don't list them
(like HBO is 7 channels, they list 3 of them)(Miramax has 7 channels,
they list 1)(Starz has 7 channels, they list 1)(Showtime has 7
channels, but they list 2). The info just isn't there
It's pretty much short shrift, in the way of what's actually on, for
anything, but, 'prime time' hours, and pretty much only for network tv,
which I haven't watched in ages. I am bereft, and, disgusted, that such
a really needed thing as a good TV Guide, which it was, has become much
like a small publication we used to get it grade school. It was called
the "Weekly Reader". Big pictures, big font print, shiny pages, no
decent context, but, dumbing it down for the masses. What's really
pathetic is that on page 110, it actually lists 133 people who are
major players at TV Guide. This does not mention all the 'little
people' that work in subsidiary jobs, but, I find it hard to believe
that 133 people decided that this was a good way to go for TV Guide.
What a bunch of 'Losers'. TV Guide critic and mad as hell that they
screwed this up so badly!!

With my local cable company if I buy the digital service I get TV Guide
mailed to me free, can't beat that. Today I received the first edition
of the new version. I hadn't perused it until after I read your post.
I see nothing wrong with it. It's at least as informative as the old
version (actually moreso), plus the paper is far better quality, it has
larger print, has none of those stupid advertizement inserts (does
anyone ever buy those collector plates), and I really like the sturdy
triple stapled construction, with the old version after leafing through
it a few times those glued in pages would begin to self destruct. The
crossword puzzle is larger and now there is a new word puzzle,
SUDOKU... which I still need to investigate.
The old version didn't list every channel either... for that you need
to click onto your cable company's digital menu.
I like the new version, especially pg. 43.

Well, I'm sure I'm paying for it with my cable subscription... there's
no such thing as "free". But it is nice not to have to be bothered
with maintaining a subscription.
But on the negative side I had previously paid for five years of TV
Guide before I moved (a special offer, I think it was like $55), so for
the past three years I've been receiving two copies... and I tried
calling to stop my paid subscription and get a refund but they give no
refund, in fact they wouldn't even stop the mailing, they said just
wait for it to run out... fortunately my personal subscription expired
about a month ago. So now I just get the free copy through the cable
company, but no guarantee they won't stop that offer at any time as it
began as a promotional bonus. But no matter, I mostly check progtrams
with the digital menu now and so don't think at this time I would buy a
subscription. However I wish TV Guide would stop mailing me "This Is
Your Last Chance" subscription renewal offers... I get a "Last Chance"
mailing at least once a week.

? I've never heard of that! Must have been some bored housewife
thing. Do you have a url to some craft site that could explain it? I
wonder if any full color page would work, like National Geographic?
