I saw a recipe a few weeks ago for a meringue cookie that used brown sugar
instead of white sugar, but now I can't find it. I did find a recipe at
www.recipesource.com that called for 1 egg white and 1 c. brown sugar, but
the proportions didn't seem right, since I usually use 3 or 4 egg whites
when I make meringues.
Any suggestions?

The following will give results for a few meringue recipes that use brown
sugar:
http://www.google.ca/search?q=meringue+brown+sugar
Hopefully one of them is the one you are looking for. I'd say there are
four or five good results on the first page.
