I liked to make the Kraft Diner; add a goodly amount of cheese whiz.
Transfer to a casserole dish, put several (4-6) strips of bacon on top
and bake it till the bacon is crispy at around 325F. I did learn that
adding onion to the KD makes it too sweet tasting for my liking....Those
were the days.

Equal weights of elbow or other pasta (dry weight, and use a good
Italian brand) and grated American cheese. Drain pasta but leave some
moisture clinging. Stir over low heat to mix. Season rather highly with
garlic salt.
And if you like "hot", serve with your favorite bottled pepper sauce. I
like "El Yucateco" habanero sauce.

My daughter was telling me how my SIL's mac & cheese was sooooo creamy, so I
decided to sneak in on her making it to see why. She uses a WHOLE stick of
butter! Wholy Moly. She still adds milk (lowfat, ironically enough!) as
well. Not healthy, but it sure is creamy and rich and cheesy. lol! When we
want to be *really* bad, we eat it with cheddarwurst, sliced and cooked on
high heat so the edges get black!

I can relate. I'm not a Kraft Mac and cheese fan. I always make my own,
but I do use american cheese or .... velveeta (egads! did I just admit to
that????) I use lots of butter and usually a little milk. And, none of
that "put in the oven and bake until it can be cut in squares and stacked
up like bricks". Noooo. It's got to be creamy, rich, melt-in-your-mouth,
stick-to-your-hips good. Leftover ham is good, but my fave is ground
beef, fried and crumbled into it. Yum.

We just got an Aldi. It was quite a surprise the first 2 times I went
there. The first time, I stopped by at 8:30 in the morning and they
weren't open yet. The second time, I went when they were open, but I
wasn't expecting *zero* service. At least I had cash with me, cuz they
don't accept checks or credit cards.
The prices are even lower than Walmart, the quality is good, and I don't
mind bagging my own groceries. Paying a 25 cent deposit to use a
grocery cart was kind of weird.

At BJ's the other day, we couldn't even find a cart. I asked the nearest
person who might know and he looked at me with a blank-ish stare and said,
"There's hardly any customers in here. I can't imagine where they all could
be." So DH went out and scouted around some more and came back in with a
Walmart cart. There wasn't a sign that said, "No Walmart Carts Allowed." so
we were OK, I guess.
Since we didn't get it from Walmart's lot, and as there was no sign on the
cart that there was a deposit, we didn't have to return it to Walmart. OTOH,
if there was a 25 cent deposit, that's another story ....
What a way to spend a life -- tee hee! And what's more, to spend time
relating these goofy happenings.

Heh, they tried those here, at the Costco at least, and other
places I read about. Didn't work. You had to be in top form
to get the cart separated from its chain, very annoying. It became
like a game, people would watch for you arriving and ask you to
take their cart and give them a quarter. Worked great.
Those shopping cart things are history, I don't think any store
has them anymore.

Mmmm ... extra trashy and extra good. I've got the Kraft mac and
cheese in the pantry but no hot dogs. I'll have to do that soon.
